Aim/Objective/Mission: Calcutta Foundation is a charitable trust, established in 1993 and is exempt from tax under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. It has two primary objectives: i) To help empower a section of young adults from Calcutta’s low income groups, by giving them rehabilitation, education and vocational training, to make them contributing and honourable citizens of Calcutta. ii) Through activities of art and culture, with focus on the under privileged classes, to help Calcutta attain its original status as the cultural capital of India. In the past couple of years, however, the Foundation has evolved into a major fund-raising organisation. The sources of its funds, in addition to the people of Calcutta, are private individuals in the US and Australia, and the Governments of Japan and Finland.
