Aim/Objective/Mission: Calcutta Urban Service (CUS) was formed in the early 1970’s with a group of committed and responsible citizens of Calcutta in response to the Bangladesh Refugee crisis for providing emergency relief and Rehabilitation Act. CUS was officially registered in 1975 under the West Bengal Society Registration Act. Since mid-seventies, CUS has been engaged in a number of poverty alleviation and urban development initiatives in and around the city of Calcutta. The management of CUS had perspective vision and courage to bring about strategic changes within the organisation in tune with changing developmental sector, moulding CUS into a professional unit with the right balance of activism and techno-managerial expertise.
